Richardson City Council Celebrates Diversity with Student Contests
Students who reside in the City of Richardson, or who attend a Plano ISD or a Richardson ISD school located in Richardson, are invited to participate in the City’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest and the Black History Month Art Contest. Winning entries awarded $200. Submissions for both contests opened January 1, 2025.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of a world where all people could live together with mutual respect and acceptance. Reflect on the importance of inclusivity in today’s society. What does it mean to truly be inclusive, and why is it essential?
- Open to students in grades 4-12
- Must not exceed 500 words
- One essay per student
- Deadline: January 31, 2025
Black History Month: "Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion" Art Contest
Design a piece that celebrates African American culture, heritage, and traditions. Consider how family and cultural roots are woven into the fabric of our community.
- Open to students in grades 1-12
- Entries may be either two or three-dimensional works
- One entry per student
- Deadline: February 28, 2025
