Inquiry & Innovation (I&I)
I & I is not a resource but a classroom culture that is rich in language development, science, and social studies concepts as well as student-centered and responsive to students' wonders. There is direct instruction and open inquiry. There is the opportunity for integration and creating global connections. Engineering, service learning, coding, and makerspace are included in the Innovations and Inquiry curriculum.

Math
Our Math curriculum builds fluency with numbers by developing conceptual understanding through targeted, hands-on instruction that promotes active learning, discussion, and problem-solving. Through meaningful activities, this curriculum also helps students develop a familiarity with counting, number relationships, addition, subtraction, and place value. The units of study are:
Unit 1 - Addition and Subtraction Strategies
Unit 2 - Numbers to 1,200
Unit 3 - Addition and Subtraction with and without regrouping
Unit 4 - Number Patterns and Money
Unit 5 - Geometry and Fractions
Unit 6 - Measurement
Unit 7 - Data Analysis
Unit 8 - Introduction to Multiplication and Division

Language Arts
Our Language Arts curriculum provides explicit, systematic instruction of foundational skills in reading and writing. The curriculum includes various genres to model foundational skills, reading comprehension strategies, grammar, and writing compositions. The units of study are:
Unit 1 - Introduction to Multiple Genres
Unit 2 - Elements of Multiple Genres
Unit 3 - Developing Comprehension through Multiple Genres
Unit 4 - Deepening Understanding of Multiple Genres
Unit 5 - Making Real-World Connections through Multiple Genres
Unit 6 - GenreStudies
Students learn all steps of the writing process and have the opportunity to carry out the process in different formats. These formats include personal narrative, informational, literary, procedural, correspondence, and poetry.
Our spelling program is an individualized approach based on student awareness of spelling patterns.
We encourage our second graders to read daily to build their skills and continue their love of reading.
