Theater I
Grade Placement: 7 and 8
Prerequisite: None
One-semester courseThis class covers the basics of theater both onstage and backstage. It includes introduction to acting, basic theater design, pantomime, musical theater, and much more.

Theater II
Grade Placement: 7 and 8
Prerequisite: Theater 1 (or approval by teacher due to prior theater experience)
One-semester courseTheater II is the advanced acting class. Students are challenged with many different types of theater performances and will also take part in an in-class play.

Theater III – Technical Theater Design
Grade Placement: 7 and 8
Prerequisite: Theater I or II and teacher recommendation
One-semester courseThis class explores all behind-the-scenes aspects of theater including stage design, set construction, basic use of tools, painting, lighting, sound, costume, and makeup design. This class is very hands on and project oriented. Students build the sets for the Renner shows and help make costumes and props.

Speech I
Grade Placement: 7 and 8
Prerequisite: None
One-semester courseThis course is open to both 7th and 8th graders. It will cover the basics of public speaking. Students learn how to deal with stage fright, group discussion techniques, and basic performer skills, as well as delivering speeches, such as demonstration, persuasive, oral interpretation, and debate.

Speech II-Tournament Prep (Advanced Speech)
Grade Placement: 7 and 8
Prerequisite: None
One-semester courseThis class is for students who want to compete on the theater and speech team. Students in this class are automatically on the team and will be required to go to two Saturday speech tournaments during the semester. The tournament entries include possibilities such as duet acting, poetry, musical pantomime, current events, debate, television commercials, and prose. The class will teach students about all events and give them time to rehearse and prepare for tournaments.
