Course Description
The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is designed to prepare high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as American citizens. The curriculum will include strategies to help students improve communication skills, enhance social and ethical values, promote character development and physical fitness, and help develop an "appreciation of teamwork through instruction in drill and ceremonies." Other activities may include parades, drill team competitions and various outdoor activities. The course will help prepare high school students for ROTC in college and prepare them for life.
- Duration: Eight Semesters (four school years)
- Time and Frequency: One class period
- Grade Placement: 9-12
- Amount of Credit: 1/2 to 1 1/2 credits may be used to count as State Elective Credit or Physical Education Credit
- Prerequisites: 14 years of age or 9th Grade, Physically capable to participate in physical exercise such as marching, running, and conditioning

Objectives: The student will:
- Develop an appreciation of the ethical values and principles that underline good citizenship which include integrity, responsibility and respect.
- Participate in activities that teach Flag Etiquette.
- Increase the potential for becoming a good leader.
- Learn to live and work cooperatively with others.
- Expand the ability to think logically and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Develop a better understanding of "Patriotism" and what it means to be an American.
- Become more informed about the importance of first aid, physical health, proper diet, and nutrition.
- Engage in activities that foster pride, self-respect, confidence, self-discipline and the desire to do one's best.
- Gain exposure to current events and world affairs that help shape the future of the country.
- Participate in drill and ceremonies.
- Develop a selfless service attitude by giving time and energy to the community and school.
