    Program Description

    Plano ISD Exploration provides an innovative summer learning experience and is open to students currently in grades 1-7 who are not concurrently enrolled in another summer program. Students have an opportunity to explore courses that include language, science, mathematical problem-solving, logic and reasoning, computer science, the humanities, and fine arts. 

    *Please note that previous year's "Gateway to Engineering" program will now be a course option for middle school students in the Exploration program called "Future Engineers".

    Eligible Students

    Current Plano ISD students in grades 1-7 who are not registered for a concurrently running summer program.

    Dates & Times

    • June 2 - 17 (Monday - Friday)   (Please note the last week will end on a Tuesday)
    • 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m

    • Murphy Middle School
    • Renner Middle School
    • Schimelpfenig Middle School

    **Please review the Program feeder patterns to identify your student's Exploration campus assignment, based on their neighborhood elementary campus.

    Cost

    • $300 per student for the entire program (3 enrichment courses).  
      • Students eligible for Reduced Lunch will pay $180 for the entire program. Students eligible for Free Lunch will pay $120 for the entire program.
      • Note: A 4.5% software fee will be applied to all transactions.
    • Instructions for payment can be found here (see Step Three).
    • Cash payments can be made at the Plano ISD Administration Building.
      • Money orders, Cashier's Checks, or cash can be accepted.  We are unable to accept personal checks.
      • Please email SummerSchool@pisd.edu to schedule a time.
    • Cancelations:
      • For cancelations before May 12: $30 is retained for administrative costs.
      • No refunds will be processed after May 12.  This includes students withdrawing from the program after the start date or students who are removed from the program for disciplinary reasons.
      • Any fees paid during checkout will not be reimbursed.
      • Cancelation requests must be submitted to summerschool@pisd.edu.

    Course Offerings

    Transportation

    • Busing is provided from the student's neighborhood elementary campus.
    • Keep in mind that the neighborhood campus may not be the campus the student attends during the school year.
    • Please review the Program feeder patterns to identify your student's Exploration campus assignment, based on their neighborhood elementary campus.
    • Summer bus routes will be posted in May.

    Registration

    • Instructions for registration can be found here.
    • Registration for the 2025 Exploration and PVAA programs will be completed through Skyward Family Access.
      • If you are using the Skyward app on a mobile device, you may not see the Exploration Registration tile.  Please complete the registration steps on a computer or in a mobile device's internet browser.
    • There are 3 steps in the registration process:
      • Step 1: Pre-Registration (March 3 - 21, 2025) --- Click on the “Summer School Exploration & PVAA Pre-Registration” icon in Skyward Family Access dashboard.
      • Step 2: Course Registration (March 24 - April 18, 2025)
      • Step 3: Payment (March 24 - April 18, 2025)

    • *Registration is not completed until full payment is received.
      • If you register between Monday and Friday of this week, you will have until Friday of the FOLLOWING week to make full payment.
      • If payment is not received in a timely manner, your child's classes will be removed so we can open up seats for other students.  If this happens, please contact us at SummerSchool@pisd.edu to re-select your child's classes.  Then you will be able to proceed to the payment process.
