Criteria for Employment in Plano ISD
To be employed as a teacher by Plano ISD, the applicant must provide:
- Official transcripts indicating your conferred Bachelor's degree. For Out-of-Country transcripts, an official evaluation must be submitted directly to Plano ISD by a recognized foreign evaluation service.
- A valid Texas teaching certificate or a Statement of Eligibility from a TEA approved Educator Preparation Program.
To access or create your TEA profile:
- Go to TEA website
- Click on TEAL Login in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

Please make sure that your Texas Education Agency (TEA) profile is up-to-date with your current information. Any discrepancies between your PISD application and your TEA profile could adversely impact the hiring process. You can access your TEA profile by clicking on the link above and then following the steps below the link. If you have any issues with the link or with accessing your profile, please contact TEA.
Certification Requirements for Current Employees

Alternative Certificate:
Individuals who hold a bachelor's degree and are interested in becoming a teacher must complete an Educator Preparation Program.

Out-of-State/Out-of-Country Certification Information:
Teachers who hold teaching credentials in another state or country will apply and pay online for a TEA Review of Credentials. Once the review is complete, the teacher will receive an email from TEA with next steps in the process of attaining a Texas teaching certificate.
As part of this process, the teacher must pass all state-mandated tests or submit the appropriate documentation necessary to determine possible test exemptions.
Once all the requirements are met, the teacher must apply and pay for their Standard Certificate.

Additional Certification by Exam:
If you hold a valid Texas classroom teaching certificate, you can add classroom certification areas by completing the appropriate examination(s).
You must register for the test through the appropriate testing company. Once you have passed the test, you must apply and pay to add the certificate to your certificate.
