When will I receive my new accrued leave for the year?
Your accrued leave for the new year is available for you to use at the beginning of each year's work assignment.
Local Sick Leave

Who is eligible for local sick leave?
Posted by:Full-time employees are eligible for local sick leave. 10-month employees receive 5 days per year, 11-month employees receive 6 days per year, and 12-month employees receive 7 days per year.
If you are hired after the year starts or resign before the year ends, you'll receive a prorated amount of accrued leave. If employment ends before the last duty day of the year, your final paycheck will be reduced by the amount of leave used in excess of the prorated entitlement for the year.

What can local sick leave be used for?
Posted by:Local leave may only be used for personal or family illness, death in the family, family emergency (as defined by policy DEC(Local)), or adoption (for up to six workweeks beginning no later than one month after placement of the child in the home).

How much local sick leave can I save up?
Posted by:Unused local sick leave will carry-forward to the next year, and may accumulate to a maximum of 50 days.

What happens to unused local sick leave if I resign from PISD?
Posted by:If you resign, unused local leave will be donated to the leave bank on your behalf, to benefit other employees.
State Personal Leave

Who is eligible for state personal leave?
Posted by:All employees receive 5 equivalent work days per year.
If you are hired after the year starts or resign before the year ends, you'll receive a prorated amount of accrued leave. If employment ends before the last duty day of the year, your final paycheck will be reduced by the amount of leave used in excess of the prorated entitlement for the year.

What can state personal leave be used for?
Posted by:Discretionary Use: State personal leave may be used for any reason, subject to approval of the requested date(s) by your supervisor. Discretionary use of state personal leave is limited to 5 consecutive days per use.
Non-Discretionary Use: If you report an absence for personal illness, family illness, family emergency (as defined in policy DEC(Local)), or death in the family, your state personal leave may be used to cover these absences. You may also use your state personal leave if your absence is due
to an FMLA-qualifying reason. -

Who is eligible for vacation?
Posted by:Full-time employees in certain year-round positions (working 246 days or more) receive 10 days of vacation leave (15 days after 5 years of continuous employment).
If you are hired after the year starts or resign before the year ends, you'll receive a prorated amount of accrued leave. If employment ends before the last duty day of the year, your final paycheck will be reduced by the amount of leave used in excess of the prorated entitlement for the year.

How much vacation leave can I save up?
Posted by:Unused vacation leave will carry-forward to the next year, and may accumulate to a maximum of 40 days. Unused vacation leave in excess of the 40-day maximum will be deleted after September 30.

What happens to earned but unused vacation leave?
Posted by:If you resign from PISD or transfer to a different job within PISD that is not eligible for vacation leave, you will receive payment for any unused vacation leave that you have earned.
