• Savvas Science

For secondary science courses that have multiple course numbers enrolled in each period (M, GM, etc.), it is recommended that teachers import class rosters via the Google Classroom import feature rather than using Classlink-rostered classes to streamline workflow when assigning lessons.

Please review our FAQ dropdowns for Navigating Savvas and for any troubleshooting information.

  • Non-Teacher Access (Specialists, Admin, Subs, etc.)

    1. In Webdesk, launch the "Savvas Realize Secondary" for secondary staff. If you do not see it, go to Step 2 to add the app. *Note: This is a view-only access for educators with no students assigned to them in the Skyward. Staff members do not sign in for this view-only access. They also cannot assign content to students or edit/remove content.

*** Please note, Specialist apps (like Savvas Secondary) will not work on iPads.

  • Issue: "Account is Already Linked"

My student receives error: Account Already Linked - The student account will need to be unlinked by Savvas.

Email DigitalLearningTeam@pisd.edu and include the following information:

    1. Student Name and ID#
    2. Campus
    3. Teacher
    4. Class name
    5. Screenshot of the error message, if possible.

Once a student is unlinked, please ask student to take the following steps (directions are on this page: pisd.edu/techtips):

    1. Delete browsing data in Chrome
    2. Confirm student's Google account is linked in Webdesk
    3. Verify password in Webdesk
    4. Launch Savvas etext Login link in Google Classroom and connect to Savvas.

  • Issue: "No Classes are Available to You"

Issue: No Classes are Available to You

Students receive an error message: No Classes are Available to You. In this case, the teacher sees a student enrolled in Google Classroom class but is missing from the Google Classroom Imported class.  Teacher will need to add products and unhide classes, if needed.  The student will launch Savvas and link to Google Classroom.  Teachers can then hide Classlink-rostered class to avoid confusion. Step-by-Step instructions linked.

  • Issue: Teacher Session Timeout

    Teacher Session Timeout

    Best Practice:

    1. Launch Savvas from Webdesk and click the Realize tab on the right navigation. Do not close this tab (Savvas home screen).

    3.   In Realize, navigate to resources and classes.

    4. When there is a Savvas timeout:

    • Close all open Savvas tabs
    • Relaunch Savvas from Webdesk to start a new session.
    • ** All previously opened tabs are associated with the initial session and can cause more frequent timeouts.

    5. Assigning activities in prolonged session.

Operate from the Realize screen.  If the teacher has been in the Realize Teacher Interface for more than two hours, prior to attempting a new assignment to a class or student, the assignment may fail to sync due to a default session timeout value for the interface. In these cases the best course of action will be to sign out, then sign back in, click on each assignment that has failed and then click the Sync with Google failed, try again option. Again, note that the sync status at the assignment level does not currently provide a success or failure confirmation. Please wait a few minutes and then check to see if the assignment is now available for the students in their Google Classroom.

  • Savvas on the iPad

How to use Savvas on the iPad.

Access Savvas Realize from Classlink tile (Webdesk).

Click on the Realize button on the right.  Navigate to etext.

How to project Savvas presentation on the iPad.

Q: How do I get the Key Ideas presentation's black background back to white when presenting on iPad?

A: Download the presentation, right-click on presentation change background so it will not show the black background. Save to Google Drive, and open on the iPad from Drive. View this video for step-by-step instructions.

**Note: Specialist Apps in Webdesk won't work

Specialist apps - HMH Specialist & Savvas Specialist - will not work on iPads. It needs the One-Click Classlink Chrome Extension to auto sign in which iPads do not have. Alternatively, access what you need from your computer. If you need to present it from the iPad, download what you need (like the PDF) from the website on your computer into Google Drive. When on the iPad, open it from Drive and mirror to the Apple TV.
